The history of war in a beautiful, interesting museum

There are several pernament exhibitions while some of the collections display certain events of critical importance that actually shaped modern Greek history from the beginning of the 20th century to the end of German Occupation and the liberation of the country at the end of World War II.

Visitors can see photographs of that period related to the Greek army, navy and air force, many weapons, replicas of ship and artillery, as well as maps, paintings and items from the Balkan Wars, World War I and II and many other conflicts.

Similar items from a number of other Balkan Countries are also displayed in the museum. In addition to the exhibitions spaces, the War Museum also has an amphitheatre, a multi purpose hall and a very important library full of writings on history and war.

The museum shop offers a significant number of publications related to Defence and Military History.

It is located north of the Archaeological Museum and the Museum of Byzantine Culture within a small walkable distance, behind the University of Macedonia in the center of the city. It definitely deserves your time and attention because of the quality and the variety of the exhibits displayed, some of which are considered rare.
